My dad Dennis Lloyd was on Asphodel, I think it would have been in 1942/43. He subsequently went to train on the early radar and served on HMS Belfast from 1943-46.
He often used to talk about the old saying - 'don't volunteer for anything' - obviously it was good for him that he did due to what happened to the Asphodel.
